Ocean Potion – American Pale Ale
Ocean Potion, our flagship beer, is a classic American Pale Ale that pours pure gold with a solid lasting head that laces the glass beautifully. Its trademark is the huge tropical fruit and citrusy aroma. This hoppy component is underpinned by a solid yet complex malt base. The first surprise is that this beer, after the aroma, is all beer. It’s light bodied and finishes surprisingly bitter.
Ocean Potion pairs well with aromatic dishes like Boboti, Thai and Indian curries.

Roman Red – American Amber Ale
Roman Red is a beautifully balanced, medium bodied amber ale. It pours a clear African Sunset red with a dense off white head. The citrus and pine resin hop aroma typically associated with Pacific North Western hop varieties strikes a balance with caramel, raisins, and a hint of smokiness from the darker crystal malts.
Residual sweetness from the malt counters the hop bitterness. The beer finishes in a lingering mix of caramel and bitterness.

It is continually hopped, in a similar fashion to that of Dogfish Head’s IPA’s, which establishes a deep seated solid hop character in all aspects of this beer.
Toffee and caramel are characteristic of the malts used in Hammerhead. The working name on this beer was Hammer(ed) (Hop)Head and probably describes it well.

Big Beers
For A Taste Of Something A Little Stronger
Titan – Imperial IPA
Titan is a single hop IPA designed to showcase the hop aroma and character of Southern Passion, a locally bred variety of hops that provides bitterness as well as a wonderful passion fruit aroma. The hop was originally known as US4/78 and hybridised in the Outeniqua mountains where all our local hops are cultivated. The hop was only ever utilised for bittering and, in 2012, we were the first craft brewery to brew a big IPA with Southern Passion.
The golden pour hints at the crystal malts used to impart some sweetness and the 8% ABV makes for a solid malt backbone. This beer will develop with age and is a nice winter warmer but balanced enough to enjoy cold on a summer day.

Apocalypse pours dark amber with a dense lasting tan head. This style is all about malt and the toffee, caramel, raisins dark fruit aromas are a testament to the complex malt bill. There’s hardly any hop aroma as dictated by the style guideline and the perceivable alcohol warmth is testament to the 10.5% ABV.
Apocalypse is surprisingly easy drinking and pairs well with rich winter food like oxtail or mutton stews.

Monsterfish – Russian Imperial Stout
Monsterfish is our latest flavour bomb. Born from an accidental experiment paired with a long standing ambition to brew a vanilla bourbon infused beer the first iteration was exceptional. It took almost 2 years and many recipe iterations to get to the current recipe that matches or maybe even eclipses that original, accidental creation. This is a BIG beer by any standard, full body, powerful aroma, strong flavour and a high alcohol percentage.
It’s a perfect winter beer with a rich vanilla, bourbon, coffee, and dark fruit aroma and a warm satisfying finish. Enjoy by the fire, after dinner or pour some over your favourite ice cream.

Crazy Diamond – Belgian Strong Dark Ale
Crazy D started as a collaboration between Triggerfish and Cockpit Brewhouse. This exceptional, award winning, Belgian Strong Dark Ale is rated with some of the best beers in the world. Crazy Diamond is quadruple fermented, which refers to adding additional fermentable sugars every time fermentation slows down, and is then aged for at least 6 months before the first release of a new vintage. The final result is a marvellous fruity sipping beer that will improve over years in the cellar.
We’ve brewed Crazy D every second year since 2013 with very limited quantities of the 2013 still in our cellar. All vintages are still available. Crazy Diamond is available on special request in 750ml bottles.

Grunter – Brut SMASH IPA
Grunter is a refreshing brut SMASH IPA perfect for a hot summer’s day. SMASH is short for Single Malt And Single Hop, referring to the recipe Grunter using only one hop variety, and using only base malt. The brut part comes from the beer’s final gravity of 1.000, meaning that there is no sugar left in the final product. Don’t be fooled however, since there’s no sugar left we have to rely on a higher alcohol content to balance out the bitterness. So this beer has been known to catch people off guard.
Grunter has a fruity aroma and taste with lingering hop notes, and minimal malt tastes.

Champs Breakfast – Coffee Infused Oatmeal Stout
A marriage made in heaven. Espresso and Beer. Rich, dark and thick; this is the complete breakfast. We use 6 different malts, enough oatmeal porridge to feed a hungry soccer team and enough espresso (35 litres per brew) to wake the dead.

Southern Right – South African Pale Ale
Southern Right is inspired by the African sunset over the ocean, local sub-tropical fruit, and Cape fynbos, capturing a bit of Africa in this easy drinking ale. Southern Right is brewed using 100% South African grown ingredients. This is one of the few beers in our range using malt roasted on site, which leads to small variations between batches. The malty caramel flavour forms a solid backbone for the tropical fruit, from local Southern Passion hops, and unique fynbos aromas contributed by African Wormwood.
This beer is dry with medium bitterness and a good choice with local dishes.

Four Legs – Altbier
The name Altbier, means old beer, and refers to the pre-lager brewing era of using a warm top-fermenting yeast, instead of cold bottom-fermenting yeasts. Over time the Alt yeast adjusted to lower temperatures, and the Alt brewers would store or lager the beer, lengthening the fermentation, leading to a cleaner, crisper beer than is the norm for some other top-fermented beers.
Four Legs is the common name used to refer to the Coelacanth “living fossil” discovered in South Africa and recently in Sodwana Bay in Northern Zululand and apt for our Triggerfish Alt.

MayStay – South African IPA
MayStay is our experimental IPA, and depending whether or not the result is good, it may stay or not. Brewed using roughly the same malt bill as Hammerhead, we use one bittering and one aroma hop, with the aroma hops being a hybridised South African variety.
The result is a well-balanced IPA with a distinct floral hop character and significant bitterness. Using only locally grown hops this is a beer that could establish itself as a typical local style over time.

Ancient One – Fynbos Gruit
Gruit is an old (mediaeval) beer style that uses herbs instead of hops for bittering and flavour. Ancient One incorporates local fynbos and derives its bitterness entirely from African Wormwood. The aroma is malty with a unique herbal fruitiness. The ruby red colour is mostly derived from crystal malts imparting caramel and dried fruit flavours.
Ancient One is an exceptionally refreshing beer changing what you’d expect from a dark red ale and can be enjoyed year round.

Lionfish – Session IPA Gruit
Light, crisp, and bitter, this session IPA is brewed with dandelion leaves to replace the hops. Technically a gruit (not brewed with hops) it’s another of our experimental beers that may expand your horizons in taste. The colour is surprisingly dark for a beer containing only base malt and is a result of the large amount of dandelion leaves used for bittering.
Dried orange peel and red grape aroma suggests a much higher alcohol content than the measured 4.8% which means you can have another without fear or guilt
